The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon also called Korthals Griffon in the UK, is a breed of dog used in hunting as a gundog. It is Dutch in ancestry, but is regarded as a French breed because the breed's development took place in France. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is particularly adapted for swampy country, where its harsh coat is excellent protection.
History
An outstanding gundog, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon originated in France, but its true patron was Mr. E.K. Korthals, who was Dutch. Mr. Korthals believed the Wirehaired Pointing dog was a truly European breed, and he was well-acquainted with the international breeding scene in Europe. Korthals aspired to create an excellent gundog with great water capabilities and formidable pointing and retrieving skills, and set to work to do this between 1874 and 1886. A German breeder, Prinz zu Solms, managed to get Korthals to help him propagate the breed in Germany, and the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, pretty much as we know it today, was in the works. Today, we still have an excellent gundog in this breed, with the hunting characteristics that Korthals aspired to create. This breed also makes an excellent companian.
Appearance and Size
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a medium-sized dog with a harsh, wiry coat. The coat is preferably gray with tan to brown markings and a brown head. Other acceptable colors: chestnut brown, white and brown, roan, and white and orange. A black coat is not acceptable. The Griffon should have flat ears that lie close to the head, and eyes that are either yellow or brown. Its nose must be brown.
Personality
he Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a superb swimmer and retriever and it loves to play in the water. Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are known as intelligent, extremely eager to please, friendly dogs. They are also known for their slightly less excitable temperament when not in the field, which makes them a very comfortable dog when home.

Ellwood with me in the back yard @ 11 weeks. Great friend and pup. Sleeps in the crate through the night,and was very easy to house train. Brian @ powderriversportingdogs.com was the breeder and I am "Extremely" satisfied. Brian was great to deal with and he has a superior kennel.
