I spent a year away from the family dogs (I was still living at home at the time but away on exchange) and he didn't seem to remember me. I was excited about seeing him again but he was a little stand-offish. Needless to say, it didn't take that long for us to be best buds again :)

My sister spent a year in Australia, when we brought her home to from Dublin airport the family dog, a cavalier king charles, was so excited to see her he ran out of the house and pooped and peed all over the path while trying to jump into her arms. Once you love a dog and treat it well it will know and love you forever and be very happy to see you when you get back to it....

I agree he will. we had a dog that couldn't live with us anymore, he went to a cousin of mine...every time we went up to chicago to visit he remembered us

Even if he doesn't remember the same way you would, the dog will re-bond with you in a short time. Dog's live in the moment something we all need to learn to do.
