It is not the distance, it´s the constancy and the regularity, what really matters. Now you can do it often...every morning, or in the afternoon, during an hour perhaps. You can also take your dofgto a special training dog place, there you can find pools or specials training machines, that will make your dog stronger. Ask your vet about vitamins or food complements too.
what type of terrain do you live around or the location you like to walk to the dog like? there are a lot of things to consider when planning a walk with our four-legged friends. Heat, shady spots along the way? is the ground a clean place (some rest stop areas or conservation areas can have a lot of broken glass or other sharp objects need not to mention, that can hurt the pads)...if walking on pavement in the summer along the canal with one of my dogs, i know she likes to jump over to the grass and continue walking every 5 minutes or so to cool or pads down. Are their waste baskets or disposal for those little presents they leave behind? Buy a traveling water dish and a few treats. The more comfortable the dog is with this adventure (keeping cool, hydrated and enjoying a treat) he/she will be more apt to keep going....start small and work up to it not only with stamina, but with the pads on their paws....
